Painting Lightning Bolts

By Professor Robert Morris

On a dark background, paint a line of hawk turquoise where the lightning stroke will be. Then highlight with progressively thinner strokes using: lightning blue, ice blue, and skull white.

On a light background, you can do the same starting with regal blue and highlighting with hawk turquoise, lightning blue, ice blue, and skull white. You can also do dark lightning on lighter areas by starting with black and highlighting with shadow grey, space wolf grey, and skull white.

This technique is similar to the marbling effect used on Asdrubael Vect and described in WD. It will work with almost any color. Try using greens and reds as well. I have used it on a lot of models, and it works well. I used the dark lightning on some white areas on noise marines, and this looked great. Unfortunately, they were for a store army for when I worked for GW, so I don't have pictures.
