Bronze Age Miniatures 2/26/03 -Bronze Age Miniatures has change casting mediums from bronze to pewter. Skip any mention of bronze in the following review. I came across Bronze Age Miniatures recently at a local miniature show and they immediately stood out from all the other miniatures available. This could of just been the half-naked Amazon figures, but I think the main reason is that they are really made out of bronze! It does sound like a strange material to cast miniatures, but then again sculptors have been working in bronze for centuries. I guess it was just time for it to reach the miniature world. It is important to remember that these figures are made out of bronze, a very hard metal. If you have any conversion plans for these your basically out of luck. However the casting is very clean so any clean up work is almost unnecessary. The figure I picked up had just a tiny seam line running down the bottom of the shield that I managed to file away. Other than that it was ready for painting. While do not consider them the best sculpted figures in this scale I have ever seen, these 54mm figures have a certain character to them that I find very appealing. They have the same sculpted style as 25mm figures, yet are twice the size. Anyone who is getting a bit bored working with 25mm fantasy figures should consider picking up a Bronze Age Miniature, and the $20 price tag is reasonable. I would prefer they were cast out of a softer material such as pewter to allow some conversion work, but then again Pewter Age Miniatures just doesn't have the same ring to it. Bronze Age Miniatures are available directly from the Bronze Age Miniature website.
